Firgas

Moving on to the next destination we recommend, we invite you to pay a visit to the town of Firgas . Actually, it is quite a modest and unassuming town, but is particularly very notable for the production of sparkling mineral water. The water which made Firgas very famous is in fact taken from a spring located in Barranco de la Virgen , approximately 5 kilometers -- or about 3 miles away. The spring is really very bountiful and beneficial, filling more than 200,000 bottles in a single day. The water from Firgas is sought after not only in the town but in all of the cities and towns in Gran Canaria .

Did you know that Firgas has already celebrated its 500 th anniversary way back in 1988? Quite an accomplishment for a pretty little town, what do you think? Anyway, Firgas has a man-made waterfall worthy of a visit. The Paseo de Gran Canaria , as it is called, cascades at an approximate height of 30 meters or about 100 feet. It is situated right in the heart of a pedestrian passage which was built and completed in 1995. And while resting on the ample number of benches provided, you can also reflect and observe the impressive paintings of landscapes and historical symbols of Gran Canaria which are carefully detailed in the backrests.
If you want to pursue this road further, you will likely learn many things and gain invaluable insights to the geography of the Canary Islands . You can check out the ceramic ornaments, for instance. Or you can also take in the picturesque views of the neighboring islands. Whatever you are in the mood for, Firgas provides you with enough resources to reflect and meditate.

We suggest capping off your little rendezvous at the Firgas Cultural Centre which, by the way, also has a neighboring square. They are both situated in between the Town Hall and the Iglesia San Roque. The place is thriving with people and it is not half a bad idea to go and socialize there with both young and old people -- any time you want.
