Ciudad Jardin

The district of Ciudad Jardin was built by English during the early part of the 20 th century. In fact, during that period, the business and economic life of the district is mainly controlled by the English. At present, Ciudad Jardin is a bustling residential area that is regarding as one of the sprawling districts of the city of Las Palmas . The lay-out of Ciudad Jardin is very organized and very easy to follow -- even first time visitors will not likely get lost there! You can also find there several embassies, as well as elegant residential homes. The picturesque houses are set amidst quaint gardens, and you can delight in the different styles that each of them exhibit.

Amidst the charm and beauty that Ciudad Jardin offers, the district is nevertheless particularly very proud of its impressive Parque Doramas . And for obvious good reason! The park features landscaped design of soothing water cascades, for one thing. If you like to relax and unwind, we highly recommend that you go here and see just why the residents of Ciudad Jardin adore this park! Oh, and aside from that, Parque Doramas also boasts of statues the visitors can delightfully observe. If it s not yet enough, why don t you try lounging in the park s municipal swimming pool? And, last but not the least, Parque Doramas is also home to several native plants and flowers.

As you stroll the lush surroundings of this very popular park of Ciudad Jardin , you will not miss the Hotel Santa Catalina situated at the heart of Parque Doramas . The hotel was originally constructed in the late 1800 s -- in 1890 to be exact. But in between the years 1947 and 1952, it was redesigned by a reputable Canary by the name of Néstor Fernandez de la Torre. Since then, many well-renowned monarchs and their families, as well as famous celebrities, have graced the Hotel Santa Catalina . If you don t have plans of checking in at the hotel, however, we recommend that you just treat yourself to a drink at the bar area of the hotel. It affords a really serene view of Parque Doramas we re sure you will enjoy!

Apart from the classy and posh Hotel Santa Catalina , you can also find other things in the park. You might also want to check out the Pueblo Canario , or what people usually refer to as the Canary Village. And if you want to visit a museum nearby, Parque Doramas is not bound to disappoint you either. Try going to the Museo Néstor before calling it a day.

If you love water activities, you will be ecstatic to find out that Ciudad Jardin generously caters to your interest! Just across the Parque Doramas are a number of the district s most popular water sports centers. One of them is the very reputable Club Natación Metropol , which features a swimming and sports club, among other things. If you go through the underpass under the Avenida Marítima , you will come across the Muelle Deportivo . It is a yacht harbor, and you will immediately realize that it is nothing less that an oasis in the city! Considering the place is literally a stone s throw away from the city, the Muelle Deportivo is pleasantly calming and -- this is the good part -- manages to keep its visitors away from the traffic that can be found just on the street above.

We suggest that your next stop be Playa de las Alcaravaneras , which is just accessibly connected to the harbor area. The Playa de las Alcaravaneras is actually a thousand meters of golden sand shores and inviting waters. It is very famous among local residents, and visitors and warmly welcomed here. The beach also lies between the Varadero Sailing Club in the south and the trendy and elegant Real Club Náutico, or Royal Sailing Club, in the north. If you want to observe luxurious yachts, we recommend visiting Real Club Náutico -- and we guarantee, you ll not run out of boats to feast your eyes on!
