Nature

It is already a given fact that the island of Gran Canaria is rich in nature s blessings -- from the boundless waters encompassing it, to the mountains complimenting its sceneries. It is interesting to know that in truth Gran Canaria is a haven for exceptional flora, of which approximately more than a 100 of them can be found nowhere else on the planet. There are also about 500 species which are exclusively found on the Canary Islands . To fuel your awe, did you know that some of the plants thriving in Gran Canaria have long been extinct, all the way back to the Ice Age? Good thing, then, that we can still steal glances of them at the island right? The Jardín Botanico , or more popularly called the botanical garden, is highly recommended if you want to take a good look at the different species the island is known to have. The place is near Las Palmas . You can also try going to those that are situated in Los Tiles de Moya . This is where you can find what remains of the laurisilva. It is also where the pine forests near Pinos de Gáldar can be found. Almost the whole of Gran Canaria has been well preserved and protected, so it is very easy to locate several nature parks and reserves -- all of them waiting to be discovered by visitors!
