Town transport

Even though it is the third largest of the major islands of Canary Islands and has the largest population, Gran Canaria s traffic is nevertheless manageable and considerably a hassle-free experience. The thrill of riding and driving in Gran Canaria is reinforced by the fact that practically all of its major tourist spots are easily within reach because of its efficient highways encompassing all over the 47-kilometer-wide island, even up to its mountain areas.

Not only having its tourist s attractions to boasts of, it also has one of the pioneering programs in the road development history of Canary Islands . Gran Canaria s superhighways were established during the late 20th century, remarkably earlier than the rest of its neighbors. These superhighways are named GC1, GC2 , and GC31 (for Grand Canaria !) while the rest are divided highways that are likewise named GC4 and the GC5.

These superhighways scope and reach is all over the region Las Palmas and were later extended to the north coast and the airport and later on to the south coast because of the high demand for more roads as a consequence of the surging influx of tourist traffic. However, the western and the northwestern parts of Gran Canaria are only linked with highways because it is the least visited areas of the region.

Consequently then, visitors and locals have easy access to virtually anywhere in the city, especially since access to the main tourist areas to the city takes no longer than 15 minutes. Apart from this, Gran Canaria International Airport (Gando) is located only 20 kilometers away from the city, with the best connections to and from it by road.
